If the male tendencies of fighting to play in women’s sports were not sufficient, male sports stars are now immortalized as Barbie dolls.
Mattel has announced that the NBA superstar is officially the first Barbie “Kenbassador.”
“As a young child, I was fortunate to have a role model that not only inspired me, but also showed what was possible through hard work and dedication,” James said in a statement about the partnership. “As an adult now, I understand how important it is to have positive numbers that young people respect.”
“That’s why it’s such an honor to partner with Barbie to release the LeBron James Kembassador doll. It’s an opportunity to instill confidence, stimulate dreams, and recognize the powerful impact of role models to show children that children can achieve greatness,” he concluded.

“Fearless” Jason Whitlock and Shemeka Michel are less interested in partnerships, but they aren’t sure it’s a good move.
“He’s a decent role model for young black kids, and that depends on whether he was actually at those Diddy’s parties,” Michelle tells Whitlock. “It’s going to make everything muddy.”
“This LeBron doll will probably be the husband of the house,” she adds.
“If LeBron’s brand was as strong as it was supposed to be, I think they would have done dolls through Nike and LeBron James action figures through Nike,” Whitlock said. “But his brand isn’t that strong, so he’s affiliated with Barbie.”
“He’s trying to reach their audience and their brand somewhat,” he continues. “He can’t get there. He’s so biased his brand that he needs to partner with Barbie. And while I sound negative about LeBron, I’m just telling you the facts.”
Whitlock believes James’ brand won’t reach as many as “if you chose Michael Jordan Lane.”
“But he’s trying out MLK Ultra here,” adds Whitlock.
