Los Angeles Lakers Facing Criticism After Recent Losses
The Lakers have hit a rough patch, losing six out of their last ten games, which has sparked increased criticism, especially after the Los Angeles Clippers beat them recently.
LeBron James responded to the loss, addressing reports regarding internal issues within the team. A recent ESPN article highlighted Jeanie Buss, the team’s governor, expressing dissatisfaction with James. This dissatisfaction apparently stems from family disputes leading to the sale of a major stake in the team to Mark Walter last year.
James denied any conflict, saying, “Frankly, I’m not really involved in the incident or the reporting or whatever the incident is.” He seemed to push back against the notion that he is at odds with Buss.
In addition to Buss’ family drama, the report mentioned possible tensions between her and James, including the belief that James was overvalued when the Lakers won the championship in 2020. Buss is said to have been disappointed with James’ reaction after the Lakers drafted his son, Bronny James, in 2024.
There were discussions around James’ role in decisions about Russell Westbrook as well. Buss stated, “Given all the great things LeBron has done for the Lakers, it just doesn’t feel right that I have to drag him into my family’s drama. It’s not true that he wasn’t appreciated and it’s completely unfair to him.”
James reflected on his arrival in Los Angeles, hoping to restore the franchise’s historic excellence. “At the end of the day, when I came to this organization, my whole mindset was to restore excellence,” he said, emphasizing the legacy he wanted to be part of.
He added that he isn’t particularly interested in media discussions, stating, “I’m 41 years old and I watch golf every day. I’m not interested in articles.” He reassured that those who know him personally understand him, and that’s what truly matters.
James mentioned that he doesn’t communicate closely with Buss but insists that they maintain mutual respect and a good partnership. “It’s always been mutual. It’s always been respectful. It’s always been a great partnership,” he stated.
As for his future, James exercised his player option last offseason, but it remains uncertain whether he will continue with the Lakers after the 2025-26 season when he becomes a free agent.
The Lakers are set to play again this Saturday against the Mavericks in Dallas.
