LeBron James says checking into game with son Bronny was ‘moment I’m never going to forget’

LeBron James and his son Bronny made unprecedented history on an NBA court together on Tuesday night in Los Angeles.

It was the first time in NBA history that a father-son duo were active NBA players at the same time, let alone on the same team.

Bronny, the 55th pick out of the University of Southern California, entered the game for the first time with four minutes left in the first half alongside his father, who is beginning his 22nd season in the NBA.

“In that moment, we were at the scorer's table together, checking in together. That's a moment I'll never forget,” LeBron said. “No matter how old I get, no matter how old my memory becomes, I will never forget that moment.”

Their match was fleeting on the floor, but cheers rained down across Crypto.com Arena as they made history Tuesday night.

There was a moment when LeBron kicked a pass to Bronny on the wing for a 3-point shot, but his first NBA shot went wide. The audience, who had been waiting with bated breath for the pair to score their first goal, let out a sigh.

Bronny grabbed a rebound in his three minutes on the floor.

“(I) tried to not focus on everything that was going on around me and just come in as a rookie and try to not mess it up,” Bronny said. “But I definitely felt the energy and I'm grateful to Lakers Nation for showing support for me and my dad.”

“We've been talking about it for years, but for this moment to come, it's pretty cool,” LeBron said. “For a little while, I don't know if it's really going to hit us both, but when we actually get to sit down and take it, it's pretty crazy. …But at the moment, We still had work to do.'' We weren't trying to make it a circus. We weren't trying to do something about the team. ”

Ken Griffey Sr. and Ken Griffey Jr., former teammates with MLB's Seattle Mariners, were also in attendance.

It remains to be seen how long the young Bronny will remain on the pro roster, but he could certainly use some time in the G League. He averaged less than five points per game at USC, but his development was stunted by a cardiac arrest the previous summer.
