LeBron James has made no secret of his thoughts about college basketball, especially his son Bronny James, who plays at USC.

On the latest episode of the Mind the Game podcast with co-host JJ Reddick, James opened up about his anxiety watching his son play this season, his first year with the Trojans. revealed.

“The NBA is the best league in the world,” the Los Angeles Lakers superstar said. “That’s why it’s tough to watch my son play college basketball. … It’s tough to watch a 40-minute college basketball game. It’s tough. I’m watching college basketball and especially with my son now, this is… I feel more anxious and sweat than I ever have before in my life. ”

James never played college basketball and attended Saint Louis University from St. Vincent College. He came to the NBA from Mary High School in Akron, Ohio, and was selected No. 1 overall in the 2003 NBA Draft by the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The college game is certainly different than the NBA, but James shares his frustrations with those at the lower levels, and those frustrations are pretty serious.

Lakers-Warriors game ends ‘strange’ due to clock glitch and replay review

“I never understood why a coach would throw the ball into the post with his big body without even having to put the ball in the post,” he explained. “The only time the ball is big and should go into the post is if he automatically flattens the defense as soon as he catches the ball, goes right back uphill to a DHO (dribbling handoff) and rolls. For a pocket passer. He doesn’t, so he can’t throw low or to the rim, or his role is so dynamic that his job is just to shrink the defense.

“If you watch a college game, you’ll see a guy throw the ball against the post, turn around and hit a jump shot or a running left-handed jump hook.”

Bronny suffered a cardiac arrest before the start of the season, which was terrifying for the James family. This season, he was able to recover and appear in 25 games for a struggling Trojans team. He missed his first eight games.

At USC, he averaged 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 19.4 minutes per game.

The biggest question for Bronny now is whether he will enter the 2024 NBA Draft after the Trojans’ season ends.

“It’s up to him,” LeBron said during NBA All-Star Weekend. “It’s up to the kid. Obviously, we’re going to go through the whole process. He’s still in the season and the Pac-12 tournament is coming up. … We’re going to look at our options and make a decision for the kid.” I’m going to leave it to you.”
