Lakers enthusiasts are still processing LeBron James’ recent move to the 76ers, which marked the end of his eight-year stint in Los Angeles.
Although his time with the Lakers didn’t conclude as fans had hoped, he did manage to secure a championship for the team.
However, that championship wasn’t celebrated traditionally, as is customary for winning teams, leaving some disappointment. In a recent episode of his “Mind the Game” podcast released on Friday, James expressed his lingering frustration about the lack of a parade.
“I still think about not being able to do the parade. That really bothers me,” he reflected, discussing the 2020 championship victory, which was overshadowed by the COVID pandemic that prevented a celebratory parade.
He quantified his disappointment humorously, saying, “On a scale of 1 to 10, how much it bothers me? A 20… It would have been super duper dope, man,” he added.
During the podcast, James fondly reminisced about his time with the Lakers and the significance of the franchise. He noted that when he arrived, many assumed he was simply attracted to the Hollywood scene. “But I’ve always loved a huge challenge, and to be part of a historical franchise like this, with some of the best players ever… it was a huge deal for me. Super cool and humbling,” he said.
He also acknowledged the high expectations that come with being a Laker, stating, “The mindset here in Los Angeles around the Lakers is all about winning championships. I understood that, and winning one was something I’ll never forget. [Doing it] with that group, with that team, for this city.”
Regardless of how fans now feel about his decision to head to Philadelphia, his contributions and achievements certainly warrant a warm reception when the 76ers visit Crypto.com Arena on Christmas Day.
