LeBron James Skips Met Gala Even Though He Is an Honorary Co-chair

LeBron James was noticeably absent on Monday night at the Met Gala in New York, an extravagant annual event where he serves as a co-chair.

The reason for his no-show was straightforward.

The 40-year-old star of the Los Angeles Lakers announced via X prior to the event, stating, “Unfortunately, due to a persistent knee injury that I suffered at the end of the season, I was unable to attend the Met Gala in New York tonight.”

“I hate to miss out on historic events! My beautiful, powerful queen holds down the castle as she has always done,” he added, referencing his wife, Savannah James.

The NBA superstar was one of six athletes selected for the 2025 Met Gala committee.

LeBron was appointed as Honorary Chair, alongside Formula One’s Lewis Hamilton, who was also named a co-chair.

According to reports, James is dealing with a Grade 2 MCL sprain in his left knee, which he sustained during Game 5 of the playoff series when the Lakers were eliminated by the Minnesota Timberwolves.

He was seen limping as he exited the crypto.com arena following the injury.
