It’s been a tough freshman season for Bronny James at the University of Southern California, and he doesn’t get much love as he prepares for the NBA Draft.
The son of the NBA’s all-time leading scorer declared for the NBA Draft last month despite averaging less than five points per game with the Trojans. He can still decide to return to college.
Perhaps it was because he was a McDonald’s All-American last year as a high school senior that he suffered a cardiac arrest last summer.

But one exhibition hasn’t convinced many, despite dropping 13 points in a scrimmage at the NBA Scouting Combine earlier this week.
ESPN’s Mark Spears A pair of scouts read out a list of notes they had sent James, and there weren’t many great ones.
One scout told Spears, “If the Lakers don’t draft him, I don’t think anyone will draft him. Teams will want to use him as a two-way player.” [contract]I don’t think [James’ agency] Clutch would like that too.”
The other was even tougher.

“Positional athlete. Not functioning as an elite athlete. Tweener is caught between two positions. Physically he should be a point guard, but he can’t run the offense. He’s undersized and handicapped as a shooting guard.” Shoot…
“His buddy is poor man’s Davion Mitchell. He’s not an NBA candidate, in my opinion.”
Mitchell, Davion Mitchell’s backup point guard, averaged 15.3 minutes and 5.3 points per game this season.
James appeared in 25 games during his freshman season, averaging 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game.
Bronny measured 6 feet 1.5 inches tall at the NBA Scouting Combine. He was listed at 6 feet 4 inches at USC.

However, it has been reported that the Lakers, where his father plays, could draft Bronny if it means keeping LeBron on the team. The draft is two days before the deadline for James to opt out of his contract.
