LeBron James has reportedly told the Lakers that he’s leaving the team, stirring rumors of a possible move to join Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors.
On his podcast, just hours before the Lakers confirmed his departure this summer, James mentioned his desire to play alongside Curry at the 2024 Summer Olympics. A clip from “Mind the Game” features this discussion.
During the episode, co-host Steve Nash brought Curry onto the show, and they covered a wide range of topics, including their experiences together. James recounted, “He was the first person I reached out to when we were assembling a team.” Curry’s response? “Good luck. As far as injuries go, I’m fine, that’s the plan.” James clearly appreciated that assurance.
Reflecting on their past collaboration, James noted that playing with Curry for Team USA was a standout experience. They led the United States to its fifth consecutive gold medal in basketball just two summers ago. James averaged 14.2 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 8.5 assists, earning MVP honors, while Curry posted 14.8 points, along with 3.2 rebounds and 2.5 assists.
Interestingly, this would mark Curry’s first Olympic participation. He excelled during the tournament’s critical moments, notably hitting 16 of 26 three-pointers in the semifinals and gold medal game, achieving a 47.8% shooting rate from beyond the arc.
During the offseason, there were whispers about the Warriors wanting to acquire James. It’s an intriguing time, as both he and Curry are nearing the ends of their illustrious careers. Each has four NBA championship rings, and, naturally, they’ll likely be eager to add one more before they call it a day.
