CNN commentator Van Jones said Vice President Harris’ emergence as a leader of the progressive movement at this week’s Democratic National Convention had revamped the Democratic Party.
A month after replacing President Biden as the Democratic leader, Harris accepted the party’s presidential nomination on Thursday night in the most significant speech of her political career.
“She’s solving some of the problems on the left,” Jones said of Harris’ speech at the Democratic National Convention on Thursday night. “The whole speech was an implicit critique of the problems that the left has had.”

Jones said Democrats are focused on “justice, diversity, trigger warnings, reparations for the past” and there are plenty of “discouragers and scolders of the party.”
“We’ve talked about justice, which is great, but now it’s about freedom,” Jones continued during a media panel after Harris’ speech. “Not just about diversity, but about patriotism. It’s not just about trigger warnings. In fact, trigger warnings are gone. Reparations for the past? No, let’s fight for the future.”
“Party distractions? No. We’ve legalized fun,” he said. “We’ve brought the party back to the Democratic Party. So this is a rebuilding of the genetic makeup of the progressive movement.”
Jones said Republicans want to win the fight against Democrats, and that means focusing on President Biden’s administration and a “woke” administration.
“They’re not just trying to fight the Biden of the past,” Jones said, “they want to fight an anti-woke battle against a left that’s died out in this country and something new has just been born.”
He told Republicans, “Kamala Harris the Democrat is someone else you need to fight.”
