Controversy Surrounds Left-Wing Podcaster’s Meme
A left-wing podcaster has sparked outrage on social media after sharing a meme that portrays Erica Kirk, the wife of murdered conservative activist Charlie Kirk, as a “fake grieving widow scammer.”
Kyle Krinsky, host of the Secular Talk podcast and boasting 500,000 followers on X, faced significant backlash for posting an altered image resembling a Spirit Halloween costume package. The meme included a provocative message and a Photoshopped image of Erica Kirk.
This unsettling meme plays off a well-known internet format, which typically features a fake but realistic-looking product package, complete with the recognizable orange background and a description of its contents.
Krinsky’s meme shows Erica Kirk with “fake teardrops” that appear to be running down her torso, alongside a depiction of her in “skin-tight black leather mourning pants,” seemingly holding a bag filled with cash.
The backlash was swift, with comments from fellow podcaster Anna Khachiyan, who expressed disbelief over the lack of empathy. “My God, some of you are terrible people,” she remarked. “I can’t fathom how you reconcile love for your family with contempt for ideological opponents.”
Conservative columnist Charles CW Cook called the act “extremely ugly” and suggested that society should feel ashamed. Author Carol Roth added, “When someone you love dies, memories will be shared. You’re only making a negative impression with this.” Meanwhile, researcher Colin Wright noted how politics seem to have negatively affected our humanity.
The Post has reached out to both Erica Kirk and Krinsky for their responses.
Charlie Kirk was a notable conservative influencer who co-founded Turning Point USA over a decade ago. He was tragically killed on September 10 while on a college campus in Utah. Following his death, Erica Kirk stepped in as CEO of TPUSA.
However, her visible mourning, characterized by frequent podcast appearances and attention-grabbing TPUSA events, has drawn criticism from various sides, including from far-right podcaster Nick Fuentes, who disapproved of her public tributes.
Initially, in late September, Fuentes questioned Turning Point USA’s handling of the situation, stating, “I really don’t like that way… I’ve been processing his death.” This sentiment reflects a broader division regarding the public grieving process.
In a heartfelt moment during an interview on Fox News with Jesse Watters, Erica Kirk was seen in tears while watching a video tribute to her late husband. The full interview, which aired snippets on a previous date, will continue to be featured in upcoming segments on “Jesse Watters Prime Time.”
