Leftist Militias Are Operating Right in Front of Us

A surprising coalition has formed in Utah, a state often viewed as strongly conservative, where groups ranging from socialists to anarchists are coming together.

Recently, President Donald Trump labeled ANTIFA as a “major terrorist organization,” particularly in light of the tragic assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University. This incident has drawn attention to various leftist anarchist factions that operate throughout the U.S., some of which are armed.

In Salt Lake City, several radical left groups have gained traction, including an armed faction known as Queers Salt Lake City (SLC). Interestingly, the group’s Instagram account seems to have vanished after Kirk’s assassination, and law enforcement is reportedly investigating its potential links to the murder, according to sources.

Elmiya Fanaian, a student organizer for SLC, expressed that “confusion” is necessary to challenge existing powers, hinting at the need for disruption, even while acknowledging the importance of peaceful protests throughout history.

Another notable leftist group in Salt Lake City is the Utah branch of the Socialist Rifle Association (SRA), which promotes firearm training. This organization claims around 10,000 national members linked to multiple violent incidents, including firebombings related to Tesla dealerships.

The Utah SRA was involved in fundraising for Artruro Gamboa, dubbed an anti-racist, who faces murder accusations. When police approached him during the “No Kings” rally, he reportedly refused to drop his weapon, leading to a chaotic and dangerous situation.

Allegations suggest that Gamboa was present before a shooting transpired, allegedly creating the conditions for his own peril. He fled but was soon apprehended by authorities.

The national SRA maintains no connections to any particular subreddit, calling it a platform for dialogue on political matters. A Reddit discussion following Kirk’s assassination revealed mixed sentiments among members, with some staunchly opposed to fascism, while others claimed rising right-wing violence necessitates better preparedness.

The Salt Lake chapter of the American Democratic Socialists (SLDSA) actively advocates for a transition to a democratic socialist society. Their bylaws condemn violence towards members but seem tolerant towards acts of resistance against perceived injustices. SLDSA representatives have been vocal about fighting back against the capitalist class, highlighting a critical stance against systemic oppression.

Despite attempts by the Daily Caller to engage the SLDSA regarding their views on political violence, responses were notably absent.

Governor Spencer Cox has pointed out that the suspects in Kirk’s assassination lean strongly to the left, noting a tattoo found on one suspect that read, “Hey, fascist! Catch!”

In the aftermath, the SLDSA announced a postponement of their socialist evening school, intended to address “recent events” concerning public safety.

The group has shared a blog post questioning what it truly means to be a revolutionary, suggesting that art and creative expression could be significant forms of rebellion.

Additionally, a local group called the Palestinian Solidarity Forum has launched an “Anti-Zionism Challenge,” advocating for a comprehensive boycott of businesses associated with Zionism and condemning passive indifference.

Utah has a variety of smaller leftist organizations, including Utah Pagans for Change and Witches for Change, which have used provocative signage to critique local conservatives.

Various online platforms, like Radical Guide, network these groups and promote community efforts aimed at dismantling oppressive systems. One Salt Lake City group, known as Free Skool, describes itself as a radical space and offers free classes on diverse subjects.

Another group, the Boing! Anarchist Collective, invites individuals who seek liberation outside traditional legal frameworks.
