Trump Installs Flagpoles at the White House, Sparking Outrage
On Wednesday, President Donald Trump added two impressive flagpoles to the White House grounds, which has apparently caused quite a stir among leftist commentators.
In a post on Tuesday, Trump mentioned that the poles, one of which stands at 100 feet, were “always missing from this spectacular location.” Following the installation, left-leaning media outlets criticized the president’s changes to the White House landscape.
The Daily Beast described the new flagpole installation as one of the latest “monstrous changes” made by Trump, noting that it followed a renovation of the Rose Garden aimed at making it more accessible for women wearing high heels.
Interestingly, the publication also referred to the flagpole displaying the American flag and the POW/MIA flag as “tacky.” It’s a rather strong word, don’t you think?
The flag wasn’t the only topic of contention during the installation. When reporters on the South Lawn inquired about the administration’s deportation efforts, Trump turned to the workers and made a light-hearted remark about illegal immigrants among them. He stated, “We have to get bad people out of here first, so we’re doing that,” followed by mentioning issues related to individuals involved in violent crimes.
He quipped, “Are there any illegal immigrants there?” as he gazed at the construction crew. Some media outlets described this moment as surprising and criticized his light approach to a serious subject. Of course, it seemed clear he was joking.
Mediaite pointed out that Trump appeared to be taking a break from discussing international threats to install the flagpoles. However, it might have gone unnoticed that he was still engaging in discussions regarding conflicts during the press conference.
Despite the backlash, Trump seems to feel quite strongly about the flagpoles, urging future administrations to preserve them as “magnificent” symbols of patriotism.
