Conservative Groups Urge Congress to Investigate Lawsuits Against Trump Administration
Major conservative organizations are pushing Congress to step in, arguing that Democratic-led states are filing baseless lawsuits against the Trump administration.
America First Legal, a nonprofit started by Trump advisor Stephen Miller, is requesting House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) to look into what they describe as “legal actions” taken by blue states aimed at undermining Trump’s agenda.
“The America First Legal Foundation has identified a nationwide trend of dismantling the Trump administration’s policies. Various Democratic-controlled states have initiated lawsuits, yet they often do not provide sufficient evidence for their stated injuries,” said Will Scolinos, general counsel for the group.
Currently, there are over 200 lawsuits challenging different aspects of the Trump administration’s policies. States like California, Colorado, Minnesota, and New York are among those leading the charge.
Scolinos mentioned that the AFL is investigating these blue state lawsuits, finding that many were filed without adequate evidence for their claims.
“Our investigation shows that these states claim harm but lack supporting evidence,” the letter asserts. “The core issue is that courts haven’t consistently enforced the required evidence for permanence, and state attorneys general are filing complaints based on speculative harm that cannot be substantiated.”
The AFL’s letter also highlights concerns about the motives behind these lawsuits, questioning whether they are genuine or simply attempts to block legitimate policies from the Trump administration.
For instance, four states that filed lawsuits regarding the administration’s transgender policies reportedly do not possess the necessary records to justify their actions. Additionally, five states involved in a lawsuit about the Department of Homeland Security’s access to Medicaid data have informed the AFL that they cannot provide the required documentation.
“These actions not only impair the integrity of the federal court system but also misuse the judicial process to obstruct legitimate policies that reflect the will of the American people,” the AFL stated.
In light of these concerns, they requested an investigation into this trend and consideration for legislative measures if necessary.
A spokesperson for the House Judiciary Committee acknowledged the initiative by America First Legal and stated they are reviewing the report, leaving all options open for future action.
