Leicester may face a points deduction following charges from the Premier League.

Leicester City Faces Potential Point Deduction

Leicester City might be in for a point deduction next season due to allegations of breaching profitability and sustainability regulations set by the Premier League.

This situation stems from three alleged violations relating to the 2023-24 season, a period when Leicester celebrated their promotion to the top tier, and was brought to the attention of the Independent Committee.

Having been relegated, Leicester will compete in the second tier next season. However, updates to the rules allow for penalties after last year’s revelation that the Premier League couldn’t impose jurisdiction regarding the alleged breach of PSR thresholds from 2022-23.

Leicester had maintained that it couldn’t be penalized by the Premier League since it had already been relegated when the accounting period concluded on June 30th.

The legal disputes around the 2022-23 financial records have now been resolved, but the club faces new charges about the upcoming season.

Additionally, Leicester is accused of failing to provide its annual accounts to the Premier League by the December 31, 2024 deadline, as well as not fully cooperating with inquiries from the league. The club has stated they plan to “work together and engage in this issue.”

A representative from the British Football League remarked, “The EFL indicates that the Premier League has referred Leicester City to the Independent Committee regarding alleged violations of regulations during the 2023-24 period.”

This investigation by the EFL began after Leicester submitted its financial documentation in March 2024, as allowed under EFL regulations. Following club promotions, jurisdiction shifted to the Premier League at the conclusion of the 2023-24 season, and now everyone is awaiting the outcome of the ongoing Premier League lawsuit.
