Leidos CEO Discusses Border Security Investments
Tom Bell, the CEO of Leidos, emphasized the need for increased investment in security infrastructure at U.S. ports and border crossings. During a conversation with Breitbart News, he highlighted that enhancing vehicle and cargo screening is essential for protecting American sovereignty and public safety.
In response to a question from Breitbart News Washington Bureau Chief Matthew Boyle about Leidos’s involvement in port security, Bell pointed out, “Leidos plays a significant role in ensuring security at ports and borders. We handle everything from scanning individuals and vehicles to monitoring cargo containers and trains. Our security equipment ensures that we accurately identify what is entering the country and verify that it corresponds with the shipping documents.”
Bell went on to address existing gaps in screening processes. He noted, “The issue is that the system is somewhat porous. Not every port or railroad crossing is equipped with adequate screening, and many vehicles are not tested for prohibited substances, something our technology is capable of doing.”
He identified the need for improvements in coverage, saying, “To expand screening capabilities, there will have to be some investment in fixed infrastructure. This investment is necessary for a more thorough examination of incoming goods to ensure they match their documentation.”
Initially, Bell described Leidos’s collaboration with various government entities, including the Department of Defense, intelligence agencies, Veterans Affairs, Social Security Administration, and various Department of Homeland Security branches such as the Coast Guard and TSA.
“We are the leading federal IT provider, which gives us extensive knowledge and a strong presence across nearly every government agency,” Bell stated. “From that position, we create solutions that help the government operate more efficiently and effectively. For example, we rank as the eighth-largest supplier to the Department of Defense.”
He summed up Leidos’s contributions, saying, “We combine hardware, software, skilled personnel, and mission insights to deliver comprehensive solutions.”
