Lesbian Parenting Complicated Sons’ Understanding of Masculinity, TV Taught Them Being a Man Means Being an ‘A**hole’

Hollywood star Jodie Foster has made a rare public comment about her private family life, particularly her two sons, saying her lesbian upbringing complicates her understanding of masculinity.

The two-time Oscar-winning actress also said television teaches her sons that being a man means being a “bastard.”

The actress has two sons, Kit and Charles, both in their 20s, with ex-partner Sidney Barnard. She and Bernard separated in 2008, and Foster subsequently married photographer Alexandra Hedison.

Foster said growing up in a lesbian household confused his sons' sense of what it meant to be a man.

“My two don't like sports,” she said. “They like to watch movies and sit around at home, and they're into female friends. They're super feminists. And when my older child was in high school, he had two women, viz. There were moments where I was like trying to figure out what it was to be a boy because I was raised by three women.”

Foster said his son, watching television, concluded that being a man meant “I just have to be a shitty person…to women.”

“And I was like, 'No!' That's not what a man is! That's what our culture has been selling you all along,” she says, adding that stage lasted for six months. He added that it continued.

“I thought you would never talk to me like that,” Foster said.

As reported by Breitbart News, the actress also expressed her distaste for Gen Z, saying that the generation is entitled but difficult to work with.
