On Friday, during an appearance on Fox News Channel’s “Ingraham Angle,” Transport Secretary Sean Duffy talked about the risks associated with mass transit in American cities.
Duffy mentioned that the federal government is heavily investing in mass transit, particularly in New York City.
He advocated for an Elon Musk-style approach for the New York Subway System.
“Thank you, Mr. Secretary, for being with us,” host Laura Ingraham remarked. “I know Mayor Adams. You’ve collaborated with him. He created this big impression that the subway is safe, and he claims crime is decreasing, but I hear differently from numerous friends, mainly women who frequently use the subway.”
Duffy responded, “The reality is that transit systems throughout America pose risks, right? These liberal mayors want to promote train use but don’t genuinely want people to ride. While the mayor has presented some data that differs from reality, he has increased the presence of law enforcement in the subway.”
“However, this is truly a misstep by New York’s governor, correct?” he went on. “She advocates for more investment in the MTA, the New York transit network, yet fails to monitor how funds are allocated for security, beautification, and safety measures.”
“Moreover, we are within the Department of Transport, actually collaborating with numerous transportation systems nationwide,” Duffy continued. “We provide substantial federal taxpayer funds to assist in operating these systems. Our stance is that if you don’t address your issues, we won’t support you financially. We want the MTA to show transparency in their spending, address fraud, waste, and misuse, and improve the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of these projects.”
