Amy Acton’s Marriage and Political Journey
The possible Democratic candidate for Ohio governor recently tied the knot with her son’s high school track coach, a move that has stirred discussions, especially following her divorce not long before.
This situation has resurfaced as the competition heats up between Amy Acton and Republican Vivek Ramaswamy in the race for Ohio’s governorship. It’s interesting how a nearly 20-year-old story is gaining traction now, given the current political climate in Bexley, Ohio.
Amy Acton, now 60, has a medical background and was Ohio’s public health director under former Republican Governor Mike DeWine. She became quite well-known for her appearances at pandemic press conferences with DeWine.
On her campaign website, she highlights her achievements, including her involvement in establishing the Columbus Foundation’s Center for Human Kindness.
However, the dynamics of her relationship with her now-husband, Eric Acton, initially sparked a lot of conversation in their close-knit community.
Amy was previously married to psychiatrist Douglas Beach from 1989 until their separation in June 2008. Court documents indicate that they filed for divorce four months after separating due to “irreconcilable differences.” Interestingly, Amy bought her home soon after their separation.
The divorce unfolded while her son was starting his third-grade cross-country season, coached by Eric Acton, who was then teaching at Bexley High School.
Fast forward seven months, Eric’s ex-wife Barbara filed for divorce, stating they were “incompatible” and had been living apart for a year. After the season wrapped up, Eric decided to resign from coaching, citing he needed to reevaluate his professional commitments.
Just a month after he filed for his license in June 2010, he married Amy. Both had three children from their previous marriages.
There was certainly some buzz concerning their relationship at the school. According to a former Bexley High student, it quickly became a topic of conversation—both among the students and the parents. It’s a memory some folks recall as being quite controversial, stirring plenty of gossip in the tiny community.
Amy’s campaign website paints a picture of a modern family arrangement, akin to the Brady Bunch, but it doesn’t delve into the complications of her prior relationship.
Currently, Acton resides in Bexley with Eric, where they are raising their six children together, pursuing interests in travel, nature, and nurturing friendships.
Meanwhile, Ramaswamy’s team opted not to provide comment on this development.
Ohio once stood as a pivotal battleground state, but it has increasingly leaned Republican. The last Democrat to secure a governorship was Ted Strickland in 2006.
Recent polls show that Acton has taken a slight lead over Ramaswamy, a candidate eyeing a presidential run in 2024. Acton was appointed as the head of the state health department in 2019 and previously served as an associate professor at The Ohio State University.
She became a familiar face during the pandemic, standing side by side with DeWine, gaining both supporters and critics due to her stringent measures, such as curfews and gym closures. She stepped down from the board in June 2020.
Despite multiple attempts, no comments were provided by Eric Acton, Douglas Beach, or Barbara Davis-Acton, and the same goes for Amy Acton’s campaign.
