Le’Veon Bell Shares Thoughts on Mike Tomlin’s Departure
Le’Veon Bell, a former Steelers star, understands the feeling of being pushed away from Pittsburgh. Recently, he reached out to Mike Tomlin, the team’s ex-head coach, as Tomlin moves on after spending nearly two decades with the organization.
In a post on X, Bell, who has shifted his focus to boxing, offered some friendly advice to Tomlin: “Go where you’re celebrated Coach T.” It’s a sentiment that resonates with many, considering the mixed feelings surrounding Tomlin’s departure.
Interestingly, Tomlin wasn’t waived. His rights remain with the Steelers, which means he could be contemplating a coaching hiatus. Should he decide to pursue coaching again, the Steelers would have to broker a trade for his rights.
There’s a lot of speculation about what comes next for Tomlin. Some, like ESPN’s Peter Schrager, believe that he’ll find a warm welcome in broadcasting when he eventually makes that leap.
Moreover, with nine head coaching positions currently up for grabs, Tomlin could easily find a new home and be treated like a celebrity, quite similar to how the Giants rolled out the red carpet for former Ravens coach John Harbaugh.
Bell has voiced his opinions about Tomlin being undervalued by the Steelers, which contrasts sharply with the team’s official tone after Tomlin’s exit. After all, Bell knows firsthand what it feels like to be overlooked in Pittsburgh. He made headlines for sitting out the entire 2018 season, only to leave later and sign a lucrative deal with the Jets ahead of the 2019 season.
Throughout his tenure with the Steelers, Tomlin achieved considerable success, including a Super Bowl win in 2009. However, since Ben Roethlisberger stepped back from his prime, the team has faced challenges. Recent seasons have been tough, with their playoff performance notably struggling, having lost their last seven postseason games despite attempts to rejuvenate the roster with new quarterback talent like Justin Fields and Russell Wilson.
