Levi Wright, rodeo star’s 3-year-old son, taken off life support after river tragedy, mom says

Rodeo star Spencer Wright and his family have decided to cancel the euthanasia of his 3-year-old son, Levi, following a tragic near-drowning last month, the boy’s mother said in a heartbreaking Facebook post.

“After many sleepless nights, much research, numerous conversations with the best neurologists in the world and millions of prayers, we are facing our greatest fears,” Levi’s mother said. Callie Wright writes: Sunday.

“I find comfort in knowing that my son will return to being the perfect little boy he was and be able to do all the things he loves to do,” she said. “I know that angels are holding him in their arms until I can do it again.”

“We love you, Baby Beans, and I can’t wait for you to be in the ground with me again.”

Levi was driving a toy tractor into a river in Beaver County, Utah, on May 21 and was taken to a Salt Lake City hospital in critical condition.

The lively toddler was not expected to survive, but despite being diagnosed as brain dead, he showed some promising early signs and gave his family hope when he woke up in a hospital bed.

This week, Levi’s family decided to release him.

“Levi has shown us enough to buy us time for all of this,” Kari Wright wrote on Facebook. “We had prayed that these were his odds of death and proof that he wanted to stay, but now we see that he just wanted to let go and give us time to be at peace.”

“During this time he has brought humanity to people across the country, brought many to their knees and reminded us what is truly important in this world,” his grieving mother wrote. “Doesn’t it give a whole new meaning to the strength of that T-Rex?”

Levi’s father, Spencer Wright, was ranked 35th in the world last year in Pro Rodeo and is the son of Pro Rodeo Hall of Famer Bill Wright.

The Wright family was the subject of a book called “The Last Cowboys” and was featured on “60 Minutes.”
