Lewis Hamilton previews the W15 ahead of his final season with Mercedes

Perhaps the biggest storyline that awaits during the 2024 F1 season?

Lewis Hamilton’s final year at Mercedes.

The seven-time drivers’ champion surprised the F1 world earlier this month by announcing he would be leaving Mercedes for Ferrari after the 2024 season. The decision shocked the sports world and sent what was already expected to be a chaotic “stupid season” into early hyperdrive.

But much of that can wait, as Hamilton’s final season with the Silver Arrows is set to begin. The first step for drivers and teams was the launch of the W15, the Challenger for the 2024 season.

As Hamilton pointed out in a statement to the media, SB Nationthe struggles of the past two years have set the team on the path to its “North Star.”

“The learnings of the past two years have helped us find direction,” Hamilton said. “Thanks to you, we have found our North Star. It is still a work in progress, but we will continue to work hard, with our heads held high and our hearts open, no matter the challenges we face. .”

Hamilton believes the W15 is more stable and predictable than its two immediate predecessors.

“If you’re not familiar with the car, you can’t get the most out of it,” Hamilton added. “With more stable and more predictable cars, we can unlock the potential of not only our cars but also ourselves as drivers.”

The driver also paid tribute to the entire team during the launch.

“I know what this team is capable of. I really appreciate the work of everyone on this team,” Hamilton said. “Every time I go to the factory, I see the sheer drive and determination of everyone. We are all very motivated for next year and will give our all to the journey ahead.”

At the launch event, Hamilton said it felt “surreal” to be in his final season with the team.

‘Obviously emotional’ Hamilton said on wednesday. “It’s pretty incredible to be here considering I came here in 2013, so it’s been my 11th, 12th year with the team. It’s a great honor to work with a group of people and see the work they do.”

Hamilton and teammate George Russell will take the W15 to the track for a shakedown session at Silverstone later today.
