Lewis University Adjusts Classes Due to ICE Operations

Lewis University in Illinois is shifting classes to different formats or locations because U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operates in the same building as one of its campuses. An email sent on Thursday informed students that all activities scheduled for the Oak Brook site at 1111 W 22nd Street would be moved to alternative arrangements.

Specifically, all in-person classes set from February 16 to 21 would be converted to online where possible. The university announced that during Spring Semester Session I, which runs from January 20 to March 14, 2026, all in-person activities at Oak Brook will be transitioned. Business classes will go entirely online, while radiology programs will adopt a hybrid model combining online and in-person instruction at different locations.

Lewis University stated that these adjustments reflect its Catholic and Lasallian mission, emphasizing a commitment to fostering a respectful and supportive environment for everyone involved. The email highlighted that individual dignity is paramount, guiding their decision-making process, particularly in situations that might cause unease within the community.

In related news, tensions surrounding ICE are escalating. This comes after an incident where a woman was shot by ICE agents on January 7, which has led to ongoing protests. Furthermore, there has been a significant rise in reported assaults against ICE personnel and attacks on law enforcement.

Fox News Digital has reached out to both ICE and Lewis University for further comments regarding these developments.
