Lexus SUV Involved in High-Profile Case to Be Auctioned

The Lexus SUV that Karen Reed was driving the night her Boston police officer boyfriend was allegedly killed will be auctioned next month.

Reed, 45, was at the center of a contentious trial last summer, where she was found not guilty of running over her boyfriend, John O’Keefe, 46. The vehicle will soon be sold to the highest bidder.

As a stock analyst, Reed accused various individuals, including law enforcement, of attempting to frame her. Her case garnered significant media attention, sparked numerous podcasts, and attracted followers nationwide. Interest in the case surged further after her 2024 trial was deemed a mistrial.

During a subsequent retrial that summer, Reed was acquitted of all charges except for drunk driving, receiving a relatively light sentence of just one year of probation—much to the relief of her devoted supporters.

At the time of O’Keefe’s death, the Lexus was impounded as evidence before being returned to the Massachusetts State Police, who held it until Reed requested its return after her trial.

Upon its return, the SUV required repairs, which Reed managed as she prepared it for auction through JJManning Auctioneers, according to reports.

The precise date of the auction hasn’t been finalized, but it’s anticipated to take place in Massachusetts sometime in January.

Reed is still facing a civil lawsuit filed by O’Keefe’s family.

Additionally, she has accused key investigators and witnesses, including the now-fired lead investigator, Michael Proctor, of misconduct. Proctor was arrested and sentenced to prison after being accused of accessing Reed’s private photos and sending her demeaning emails.

On January 29, 2022, O’Keefe was found dead at a colleague’s home in Canton, Massachusetts. Reed faced allegations of intentionally backing her SUV into him and leaving him behind.

The couple’s relationship was reportedly deteriorating, and they had a heated argument before she dropped him off at a party.

Reed’s defense contended that O’Keefe’s severe skull fracture did not align with the account of a vehicle-pedestrian collision, yet a prosecution witness claimed Reed was heard saying “I hit you” after O’Keefe’s death.

After her acquittal, Reed boldly stated that “no one fought harder for justice for John O’Keefe than she did.”
