LI snowplow crashes into utility pole, sparking fire at nearby ice rink

A Long Island snowplow crashed into a utility pole during the winter stop cleanup on Sunday.

The accident occurred at Kings Park around 8am, sending live wires to the ground and wooden sticks tilted at a 45-degree angle. According to News 12 Long Island.

Approximately 650 people lost power immediately.

And at a nearby super ice rink, a wreck and a loss of power caused a fire in the basement.

The flames spread to the ground floor and the area had to be evacuated before a fire broke out.

No fire injuries have been reported.

“We were ready to start a day when power came out really fast,” local Mike Belling told the outlet.

“We then heard sirens, multiple corners, trucks one after another from the fire station,” he added.

The road was closed throughout the morning as crews performed repairs.
