Jaguars Coach Addresses Sideline Interaction With Quarterback

Jaguars coach Liam Cohen downplayed the sideline spat with quarterback Trevor Lawrence during their recent 31-27 loss to the Bengals, insisting it wasn’t “personal.”

Just under five minutes into the fourth quarter, while the Jaguars were leading 27-24, Lawrence attempted a throw on a second-and-14 to wide receiver Diami Brown.

During this moment, Cohen animatedly indicated where Lawrence should aim, prompting a response from the quarterback.

“It was just one throw, and I was frustrated,” Cohen stated. “It’s an emotional game. Nothing personal.”

Lawrence, now in his fifth season with the Jaguars, finished the match with 271 yards alongside three touchdowns and two interceptions, completing 24 of his 42 attempts.

The intense exchange between Lawrence and Cohen caught the attention of social media, but the coach noted that it reflected Lawrence’s competitive spirit.

“He made a great throw behind the end zone, but this isn’t a drama,” Cohen commented. “I appreciate the intensity he brings to the game and how he handles himself on the sidelines. That consistency is crucial for me.”

Lawrence remarked that communication had been “very direct,” and Cohen’s energy pushed him to elevate his game. “He honestly brought out a bit more from me,” he said.

The Jaguars, now sitting at 1-1, will face the Texans, who are currently 0-1, next Sunday.
