LiAngelo Ball recalls being arrested in China for shoplifting sunglasses from Louis Vuitton store

LiAngelo Ball, the younger brother of NBA stars Lonzo Ball and LaMelo Ball, talks about when he and two other UCLA players were arrested in China in 2017 for stealing designer sunglasses. Ta.

Ball, 26, was traveling with the UCLA men's basketball team when he went to a Louis Vuitton store next to the team's hotel in Hangzhou and snatched his sunglasses.

Ball recently reflected on what happened when he starred in “Unapologically Angel,” in which he co-starred with Angel Reese.

“I knew it was wrong. I was 18 years old, in the wrong place and time, and I just did something stupid and made a quick decision. So I don't know how to explain it. Everybody wants me to come up with this long idea, 'Like, I don't know how to explain it,''' Ball said.

“I did what I had to do, and I knew it was wrong, and that's it. It's been seven or eight years now. I haven't had any problems since. .”

Ball said he knew right away he had made a mistake.

“I couldn't think of anything else. I knew — was going to go south. I don't know, but as soon as I left the store, I thought, 'Damn.' 'I said (to my teammate), 'Oh, it's over,' Ball said.

“I knew it was wrong, brother.”

After his career at UCLA, Ball was not selected in the 2018 NBA Draft. Ball did not go to the NBA in 2018, instead playing overseas in the Lithuanian Basketball League.

He played for the Los Angeles Ballers of the Junior Basketball Association, a league founded by his father, LaVar Ball.

Ball then spent time in the NBA G League from 2021 to 2023. Ball signed an Exhibition 10 contract with the Detroit Pistons in 2020, but was released from his contract shortly after signing.

The Charlotte Hornets signed him in 2021 and 2022, but he was waived shortly after signing both times. Ball has not played in an NBA regular season game.

Ball's brothers, LaMelo and Lonzo, are both in the NBA. LaMelo will play for the Charlotte Hornets and Lonzo will play for the Chicago Bulls.
