A group of liberal activists has called on the Justice Department to investigate the actions of a Wisconsin mayor who moved absentee drop boxes and posted a photo of himself doing it.
On Sept. 22, Wausau Mayor Doug Dinney wore a helmet and used a trolley to Move an absentee dropbox Go to the office from in front of City Hall. The Republican ran for mayor and won on a campaign against drop boxes.

“This is no different than a maintenance person moving it outside,” Dinney said. “I'm a member of the staff. Nothing bad has happened here. I'm hoping for a good outcome.”
He also said they decided to move it because they found it unsafe, and city officials said they plan to secure the drop box to the ground before unlocking it and using it.
“Currently, we don't have any dogs participating in hunting,” Dinney explained. “I hope that it will be implemented appropriately with the appropriate opinions and consent of the people.”
The Wisconsin Supreme Court banned drop boxes in the state in 2022, but a more liberal court reversed the decision in July, allowing communities to set their own rules for drop boxes. About 60 towns, villages and cities in the state have opted out of using dropboxes in presidential elections.
Some residents called for an investigation into the incident.
“This is the kind of action designed to stir the pot,” said Wausau resident Pamela Bannister. “It does nothing to curb the rhetoric we are all facing this election cycle. It has achieved no positive results and in my estimation amounts to voter obstruction and intimidation.”
On Thursday, the Wisconsin Department of Justice Confirmed They said they were looking into the issue.
The drop box was locked and there were no ballots inside when the mayor moved it. In Wisconsin, interfering with or interfering with voting in an election is a felony.
