“Jimmy Kimmel Live!” host Jimmy Kimmel struggled to hold back tears as he laid down his outlandish theories about what Trump's victory would mean for the country.
“To be honest, last night was a terrible night,” Kimmel said.
“It was a terrible night for women, it was a terrible night for our children, it was a terrible night for the hundreds of thousands of hardworking immigrants who keep this country going,” Kimmel continued, fighting back tears. “To our allies in Ukraine: It was a terrible night for NATO, for truth, for democracy and decency, and for everyone who voted against him, and, well, terrible for everyone who voted for him.” It was night, you just didn’t realize it yet.”
Kimmel also claimed that Trump's monumental victory was a positive for Russian President Vladimir Putin, but offered no reason why. This highlights a long-standing Democratic conspiracy theory regarding the belief that President Trump is allied with President Putin. Some say the theory developed after left-wing political commentators initially claimed that first lady Melania Trump was of Russian origin. However, she was actually born in Slovenia.
“I've been trying to come up with something positive. The best I can come up with is, we've been through something like this once before, and yeah, this time it's probably going to be even worse. I mean, it's probably going to be a lot worse,” Kimmel added. “I'm disappointed, and I'm sure many of you are too. I thought common sense would prevail. I'm so stupid that I always think it would, but for a lot of people… This doesn't matter. It's not high on their list.”
NBC' Seth Meyers also gave a harsh response to President Trump's victory on his late night show.
“I don't think Donald Trump is a good person. I'd go so far as to say he's a bad person. Now, in my defense, I don't think what makes a person a good person or what makes a person a bad person. I'm saying this based on everything I've ever been taught.
“This is a reality and I accept it. Half the country either thinks he's a good person, or they don't care that he's not, they think he's a good president. And because of that, will be our president again…well, Donald Trump will win the election in 2024 and will be president again for another four years, or eight or 12 years, or whatever. Myers said with a sarcastic smile. . “We live in an infinite time warp in which Donald Trump has always been and always will be the center of the universe. There is no escape, and we salute a powerful and benevolent Supreme Leader. Masu.”
Late-night host Stephen Colbert, on the other hand, took a more direct approach to dealing with his viewers. He spoke in a gentle tone, trying to comfort his sensitive and grieving liberal audience.
“Hey, how's it going? I'm guessing people who watch this show regularly aren't doing very well. Yeah, neither am I,” said the star, who has a net worth of $75 million. Colbert reportedly said.
Colbert went on to joke that he was now questioning his “fundamental belief in the goodness of human nature.”
“I hope so, and you do, and many of us wish this had never happened. But this is not for us to decide. Democracy, of course,” Colbert said, trying to force a cheap joke. “And in this democracy, the majority has spoken and said they don't really care about democracy.”
