The first 2024 presidential debate was so damaging to Biden’s campaign that some on the left have blamed CNN for allowing former President Donald Trump to attack Biden for hours.
At the heart of their criticism is the claim that CNN allowed Trump to lie during the debate by not fact-checking it.

Keith Olbermann was the man at the forefront of this story. Condemned Against cable news networks.
“CNN’s decision to abdicate its journalistic responsibility by not fact-checking Trump’s flood of lies is inexcusable. This debate is a Biden vs. Trump tag team and a complete failure of CNN as a news organization,” he wrote.
“Literally at some point tonight, I’m suggesting that CNN should go off the air in shame, fire everyone, lock down the building, make sure everyone is outside and burn this filthy building down!” he said in the video. Posts to X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.
Others made similar claims in an attempt to cover up the president’s deteriorating health.
“It’s horrifying. It’s horrifying that CNN, a supposedly centrist mainstream network, would rig the show in Trump’s favor. They talked about Hunter Biden but never mentioned Trump’s 34 felonies and rape. What world is this? A rigged world.” Reply Actress Ellen Barkin.
“Democrats can’t pretend this isn’t a bad thing. It’s really embarrassing that CNN won’t fact-check it.” Responded Florida activist Rebecca Jones.
“Jake Tapper, Dana Bash, Shame on CNN for letting Trump’s lies go unchecked.” Said liberal critic Art Candy;
“This is journalistic misconduct and is destroying our democracy.”
“It is utterly shameful that CNN hosts refuse to fact-check President Trump’s statements. This is journalistic misconduct and is subversive of our democracy.” Responded Human rights lawyer Qasim Rashid.
“If Trump won’t answer stupid questions from the moderator and won’t fact-check, what’s the point? Jake Tapper and Dana Bash, please. This is bullshit.” Said They paid Democratic Twitter troll Majid Paderan.
“CNN did the American people a disservice. They aired two hours of fact-free infomercials about Trump and barely mentioned the coup, convictions and indictments against the United States.” Responded Former Congressional candidate Christopher Hale.
Others condemned CNN but didn’t excuse Biden’s poor performance.
“CNN failed to fact-check Trump’s lies, but if Joe Biden had done his job in the debate, his answers would have been a fact-check. So three things are true: Trump is lying profusely, the moderators are not doing their jobs, and neither is Biden.” I have written Attorney Olayemi Olulyun.
Since the debate, Democrats have been shaken and panicked, with some openly calling for Biden to withdraw from the campaign, others hoping Democrats will replace him, and some liberal commentators have argued that Americans will ignore the debate and end up voting for Biden out of disgust for his rival.
