Girlguiding’s Decision Sparks Outcry

The UK’s Girlguiding organization, part of the global Scouting movement, has announced that it will no longer permit boys who identify as transgender to become members. This has led to significant upheaval among many on the left.

In a statement released Tuesday, the organization indicated that this decision stemmed from a recent Supreme Court ruling concerning sex and gender. “Effective immediately, transgender girls and young women will no longer be a part of Girlguiding,” they stated. “We never wanted to make this choice and recognize that it may upset our community members.”

Girlguiding provides services to about 300,000 girls across various groups like Rainbow, Brownie, Guide, and Ranger. They continue to emphasize their commitment to inclusion, promising to support marginalized individuals moving forward.

In response to the announcement, numerous left-leaning individuals expressed their outrage.

One commenter on social media remarked, “This is horrifying. It’s clear they didn’t want to make this decision, but the legal challenges are daunting.” Another user conveyed their emotional response by saying, “Hearing this brought tears to my eyes. It’s just sheer cruelty.”

Tammy Hymas, the Director of Policy at TransActual Group, termed the decision “terrible,” pointing out that an organization that has long prided itself on inclusivity is now, under external pressure, being compelled to exclude transgender girls. “This isn’t solving any problems; it’s just causing harm,” she noted.

Hymas further expressed that this decision represents a form of violence against already vulnerable transgender individuals, suggesting it could inflict lasting trauma on young LGBTQ+ people.

Another social media user added, “It’s truly disheartening and embarrassing to belong to an organization making divisive decisions like this.”
