Seattle Faces Challenges in Upcoming Game
Seattle has recently struggled, as freedom seems to be passive and vague in their offensive approach.
The situation worsened when Sabrina Ionescu missed four of the last five games, just ahead of their matchup with the Storm on Friday.
New York still boasts important ball handlers like Natasha Cloud and Brena Stewart. However, they’re in need of additional scoring options to bolster their overall performance and defense.
Coach Freedom is looking for Leonie Fevich and Kennedy Burke to step up and bring more aggression to their play. They aren’t insisting on taking shots but are emphasizing the importance of creating better scoring opportunities.
Both Fevich and Burke recently experienced a dip in their shooting efficiency. Fevich managed only 18.8% shooting from the field in the last week; interestingly, she was 2-2 in the last three games. Burke struggled even more, hitting just 10% and failing to make any long-range attempts.
Despite these recent struggles, Fevich and Burke are recognized as two of the league’s most effective shooters. Coach Sandy Brondello continues to motivate them to keep shooting.
Cloud expressed a desire to improve her performance. She highlighted how many of the team’s issues are interconnected, noting that New York’s defense weaknesses often force the offense into tough matchups.
“We need to be more aggressive; it not only simplifies our game but also allows our defense to set up our attacks,” Cloud mentioned. “We’ve talked about it, but we need to act on it. A more aggressive defense will help create pressure and transition smoothly into offense.”
It’s still unclear whether the recent discussions among the Liberty will translate into concrete actions on the court.
While New York clinched a playoff spot on Tuesday, dissatisfaction looms over their performance in the past couple of months. With only three regular-season games left, finding ways for secondary scorers to regain their confidence is crucial.
