Actor Liev Schreiber shared that a significant moment for him was when his son, now identifying as a woman named Kai, asked for her pronouns to be changed. He noted that it didn’t feel like a monumental shift to him, largely because Kai had expressed herself in a feminine way for a long time.
Schreiber explained, “Kai has always been who Kai is,” emphasizing that the pivotal moment was when she requested the change in pronouns. He added, “To be honest, it didn’t feel that big for me, just because Kai was so feminine for so long.” He shares Kai with actress Naomi Watts.
Recently, Kai made her modeling debut, walking in a Valentino show and featuring in a campaign for a luxury Italian brand.
Schreiber and his children will be at a gala hosted by the Ali Forney Center in New York City, where they will support young homeless members of the LGBTQ+ community.
“This isn’t just about the trans community,” he remarked. “It represents individuals who lack resources, have no accessible help, and are often without stable living situations.” He highlighted the serious challenges faced by many, noting that some of them have sadly not survived these hardships.
Schreiber stressed the importance for Kai in declaring, “Hey, I’m a trans,” underlining her visibility.
When asked about advice for parents of transgender children, he responded thoughtfully, saying, “I don’t have the answer for your child. I can’t truly understand what it’s like to be a trans dad or what your child’s experience is like.” He added, laughing, that discussing his thoughts about his child might feel intrusive, especially when people have opinions about trans teens.
He insisted it doesn’t really matter whether they’re trans or not; the challenges of adolescence remain the same.
However, not everyone is comfortable with their children exploring these identities. Research indicates that rising numbers of young people are questioning their biological sex, a trend attributed in part to social influences, especially among those in the entertainment sector. This has sparked concern and fear in the public about the underlying reasons for these trends.
