Trump Aims to Clean Up Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool
On Tuesday, former President Donald Trump announced his effort to address the “filthy” condition of the reflecting pool at the Lincoln Memorial, criticizing the Biden administration for neglecting significant landmarks in Washington, D.C.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump mentioned that he is collaborating with Interior Secretary Doug Burgum on this project, which is part of a broader initiative focused on beautifying key areas in the capital.
“Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum and I are working to restore the absolutely filthy reflecting pool between the Lincoln Memorial and the Washington Monument,” Trump stated. He went on to say that maintenance was supposed to be the responsibility of the current administration, but he feels they’ve failed in this task.
Burgum expressed his support for the project, suggesting they were committed to improving the area. He stated, “Unlike the Biden administration, I know how to get things done! We’re working to keep D.C. safe and beautiful! It’s an honor to work with you on this important mission, Mr. President.” His post even included an image of himself at the pool.
Last year, the National Park Service had shared a video featuring a “super scrubber” and a vacuum specifically for cleaning the pool. They mentioned that a year’s worth of trash, algae, and goose droppings needed to be removed from the reflecting pool.
It’s typical for pools to be drained and cleaned annually before they’re refilled. Meanwhile, Fox News Digital has reached out to the National Park Service and the Department of the Interior for further comment.
In an unrelated move, a federal judge appointed by Trump recently ordered a halt to construction on another ambitious project intended for the White House, amid a lawsuit asserting that Congressional approval was necessary for it to proceed.
