Lindsay Civer’s family is distraught after the former beauty pageant queen was arrested in the Bahamas on suspicion of plotting to murder a estranged former Auburn football player.
Lindsay’s grandfather, Tom Shirley, said he was “sad,” “shocked,” and “disappointed” to learn of Lindsay’s July 21 arrest, 36, a stay-at-home mom.

“It just ripped us apart,” Shirey told the Post on Wednesday. “It is such a shame and a crying shame for Robert, his children and everyone else.”
“I know, or thought I knew, Lindsay. I don’t know what happened, but something happened,” he added.
Shiary said Lindsay, Robert, and their three children are happily living in a $2.5 million mansion in Thomasville, Georgia, and lavishly traveled to their vacation home in the Bahamas on a private jet. They looked like an ideal family, he noted.
“They are such an amazing couple and such an amazing family, it’s unbelievable,” Shirey said of the Shivers.
But on April 5, life insurance company executive Robert filed for divorce, accusing his wife of cheating, and their seemingly rosy family life came to an abrupt end.
The next day, Lindsey filed a plea in Thomas County Superior Court, claiming that Robert had a history of violence against her and was trying to get her money.
But Shiley said she was very close to her family and had never seen any signs of domestic violence, describing Robert as a “good guy”.
“I never saw them. They were just a great couple,” he said. “I didn’t know anything different. It’s actually a surprise to me that something like this happened, and I’m very sorry.
“I don’t know if she’s lost her mind or what. I don’t know,” Shiley added.
Despite the controversial divorce and murder plot, Tom said he was glad Robert spoke with prosecutors about Lindsey and withdrew his objections to his release on bail Tuesday.
Lindsay, Bethel and Newbold were held at Fox Hill Prison in Nassau before a court granted the release of the mother of three on $100,000 cash bail. Bahamas Court News reported.
She wore a bracelet around her ankle and agreed to remain in the Caribbean country until the court on Oct. 5. Bethel and Newbold were each granted bail of $20,000 and agreed to wear tracking devices.
The court ruled that the three also filed travel documents, were barred from contacting Robert, and were all ordered to report to the Marsh Harbor Police Department three times a week.
A representative for the suspect was not immediately available for comment.
