Lindsey Graham Faces Criticism From All Sides After Comparing Iranian Island Invasion To Iwo Jima

Lindsey Graham’s Comments Spark Controversy

Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina made headlines on Sunday when he likened Iran’s assault on Kharg Island to the intense Battle of Iwo Jima, stirring reactions from various political figures. During his appearance on “Fox News Sunday,” Graham suggested that U.S. ground troops should not be ruled out for occupying Kharg Island, referring to the bloody 36-day conflict in March 1945 that resulted in nearly 7,000 American deaths and countless injuries.

His remarks drew backlash from lawmakers across the political spectrum, with many accusing him of being indifferent to the potential loss of American lives in a bid to control Iran’s crucial oil hub. Matt Walsh, a figure from the Daily Wire, expressed concerns about Graham’s influence in politics, labeling him neither conservative nor supportive of American interests. Walsh stated that Graham wants to prolong conflict without regard for American casualties, calling him one of Congress’s worst members.

Graham’s comments indeed raised eyebrows. Nancy Mace, a fellow Republican from South Carolina, called him a warmonger and reminded everyone that Iwo Jima was the “bloodiest battle in Marine Corps history.” In her posts, she emphasized the historical significance and horror of that conflict.

Similarly, Rep. Anna Paulina Luna expressed her outrage, stating that Graham’s attitude towards military personnel showed a troubling lack of respect. She suggested that he treats soldiers like “expendable livestock,” emphasizing the over 26,000 casualties suffered during the Iwo Jima battle.

Former Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene chimed in, criticizing Graham for prioritizing overseas conflicts over pressing domestic issues. She called him a “psychopathic neocon” for being willing to send troops to their deaths rather than focusing on American concerns.

Mike Cernovich pointed out a seeming double standard in response to Graham’s call for further military action. He asked why others in the media, like comedians and commentators, attract criticism while Graham and influential politicians can advocate for significant military interventions without facing similar scrutiny.

The casualty statistics from Iwo Jima were also highlighted by Jack Posobiec, indicating alarming rates of loss. Representative Jason Crow from Colorado reminded the public of the sacrifices made during the historic battle, emphasizing that it was fought with clear purpose and support from the American people.

Graham’s office has yet to provide any comments regarding the backlash. Meanwhile, reports suggest that the Trump administration is exploring options to blockade or occupy Kharg Island to exert pressure on Iran, particularly concerning shipping routes through the Strait of Hormuz, which have been causing surging global energy prices. Joe Kent, a former director of the National Counterterrorism Center, warned that deploying U.S. forces in that area could lead to disastrous outcomes.
