Lindsey Vonn’s Recovery After Olympic Injury
Lindsey Vonn is currently in the hospital following her participation in the recent Olympics, where she suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). She’s waiting for imaging tests to determine the next steps in her recovery.
In an Instagram video, Vonn expressed her feelings, saying, “I feel like I’m finally coming into my own, but I still have a long way to go.” She has surgery scheduled for tomorrow and hopes that it goes smoothly. After the surgery, there’s a possibility she could be discharged, though another surgery may be necessary. They’re still unclear about the specifics until they have better imaging results.
Vonn shared her emotions while in her hospital bed, reflecting on what she described as a “difficult few days.” It’s her fourth surgery since the injury occurred while she was trying to make a comeback at the Olympics.
Considered one of the most talked-about American athletes at this year’s Milan-Cortina Olympics, Vonn has returned to the Games after an eight-year absence. She sustained her ACL tear during a World Cup race a week before the Olympics but continued to compete. Unfortunately, she crashed shortly into her first race, just 13 seconds after hitting a gate, and was subsequently airlifted to Ca’Foncello Hospital in Treviso.
After the accident, Vonn shared her thoughts in an Instagram post, saying, “I have no regrets.” She acknowledged that while the day didn’t end as she had hoped, the experience of standing at the starting gate was a victory in itself. She recognized the inherent risks of racing, emphasizing that life has its own risks—dreams, love, and, yes, sometimes falling short. “But that’s also the beauty of life,” she said. “We try.”
Vonn explained that the ACL tear was unrelated to her crash, stating, “When the line was five inches too tight, my right arm got caught on the inside of the gate, causing me to twist, resulting in my crash.” She reiterated that her prior injuries didn’t factor into the incident.
