Lindsey Vonn has had another surgery on her injured leg.
The renowned American skier shared this update on Wednesday, just a few days after a serious downhill incident at the 2026 Winter Olympics, which dashed her hopes for a medal. During the accident, she tore her anterior cruciate ligament.
“I had my third surgery today, and it went well,” Vonn posted on Instagram, along with a picture of herself in a hospital bed. “Success today feels completely different than it did a few days ago. I’m making strides and, although slowly, I know I’ll be okay.”
“I want to express my gratitude to the amazing medical staff supporting me, my friends and family, and everyone around the world for their incredible love and encouragement. Also, congratulations to my teammates and Team USA athletes who have inspired me and given me something to cheer for,” she added.
Vonn, now 41, had the skiing accident in Switzerland about a week prior to the start of the Milan-Cortina Games, leading her to tear her ACL. She crashed into a gate during the first run of the Olympic event and required airlift to the hospital.

Following the accident, Vonn underwent two immediate treatments. In a post on Monday, she mentioned having “no regrets” about racing.
Her father, Alan Kildow, voiced hopes that this marks the end of her skiing career. “At 41, this should be the end of her career,” he said earlier this week. “As long as I have a say in it, there won’t be any more skiing for Lindsey Vonn.”
Vonn’s family watched the event unfold in Cortina d’Ampezzo and were understandably shaken by the incident. “It’s shocking and horrifying to see a crash like that,” Kildow reflected. “The experience can be traumatic. You’re terrified of the possible consequences. It’s hard to come to terms with it, but she’s in good hands.”
