In an Instagram post the next day, the 39-year-old opened up about the intense pain he’s experiencing from the loss. “The pain is immense and it will take time for this wound to heal,” he revealed. Yet, he remains hopeful, cherishing “all the good things.” He mentioned the team’s effort, their remarkable comeback, and the overwhelming support from their country. “Today it’s difficult to fully appreciate what we achieved, but this group reached the World Cup final for the second year in a row,” Messi added.

Heartfelt gratitude also filled his message: “Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all the greetings and all the messages. Once again we were able to unite as a country and be together, sharing the immense pride of being Argentinians.” He also offered praise to Spain for their victory.

During the match, Messi’s emotions were visible as he grappled with the defeat and Argentina’s missed opportunity for back-to-back championships.
