Detroit Lions receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown said teammate Jack Campbell’s neck injury was a sobering reminder of what matters beyond football.
Watching Campbell down on the field, St. Brown found himself thinking about Campbell’s wife and the couple’s baby, born just a few months ago. More than anything, he said, he hopes Campbell recovers and can return to everyday life with his family.
Campbell shared an update Wednesday, saying he has full movement in his lower body and is making progress with movement in his upper body. He thanked those who had sent prayers and support, and said he was encouraged by how far he had come so quickly. There is still work ahead, he noted, but he is staying positive and taking recovery one day at a time.
Campbell was injured while trying to tackle Minnesota Vikings tight end T.J. Hockenson. He went limp and fell face down before medical staff came to assist him.
St. Brown said it was hard to return to the game after seeing Campbell taken away for medical care. Still, he acknowledged that injuries are part of a physically demanding sport and that players have to finish the game.
The experience, he added, brought the team’s priorities into sharper focus. St. Brown said he and his teammates are thinking of Campbell and hoping he continues to improve.
Campbell also thanked his teammates, coaches and the Lions organization for standing by him. He said he was proud to be part of the team and described Detroit as a city defined by resilience and toughness—qualities he intends to draw on during his recovery.
He asked people to keep him and his family in their prayers, adding that their support has meant a great deal to them.
