A beverage company is giving away a jet plane to one lucky winner, and this time it’s real.
Liquid Death announced a familiar contest on Tuesday with a $400,000 prize for a fighter.
“This summer, Liquid Death is doing something no other beverage company has ever done before: giving away actual jet planes,” the canned water brand says. Announcement on social mediaThis is a blatant satire of Pepsi’s failure to deliver on the same promise in 1995.
Dubbed “The Dehydrator” and featuring the brand’s skull logo, the “100% authentic jet” is a retired US military Aero L-39C Albatross that was used for training missions.
The sophisticated aircraft has no weapons capability but can fly at a maximum speed of 470 miles per hour.
“It flushes out the fluids and empties your stomach,” the Liquid Death-drinking actor said in a promotional video.
The six-figure prize contest is similar to Pepsi’s jet giveaway in the 1990s, but the soda company didn’t keep its promise, leading to a lawsuit and the famous Netflix series, “Pepsi, Where’s My Jet?”
Pepsi kicked off the contest promising a variety of prizes ranging from baseball caps to T-shirts to mountain bikes, but the surprise grand prize was a military-grade Harrier fighter jet.
Desperate players bought thousands of bottles and 12-packs of soda in an attempt to win a fighter, but Pepsi eventually admitted that the contest was just a joke.
“But Liquid Death is no joke,” the ad reads.
To emphasize this point, the water company begins its ad with a practical question: “Is this a joke?” Frequently asked questions section.
“This is 100% true. You don’t need to take us to court to get your jets,” was the response.
While the package doesn’t include a pilot, the winner will also receive six months of hangar space outside Chicago, a Liquid Death flight helmet, and a year’s supply of canned drinks.
To enter, participants simply need to purchase Liquid Death products in-store and submit their receipt to the company.
Each item represents one entry, with a maximum of 400 entries permitted per participant.
