At least seven lawsuits have been filed against Boar's Head since the company recalled its products following a listeria outbreak that killed nine people, including one New York resident. According to reports.
A total of 58 people in 18 states have become sick from rotting meat produced at the contaminated Boar's Heads plant in Virginia, where mold, mildew and insect infestations were reported.
The company recalled millions of pounds of deli meat products after people started getting sick.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has said the actual number of cases during the outbreak is probably much higher.
This is the largest Listeria outbreak in the United States since 2011.
The lawsuits against Boar's Head include claims of personal injury, wrongful death and deceptive marketing practices. The number of plaintiffs in the class action lawsuit filed in New York continues to grow.
One of the lawsuits was brought by the family of Günter Morgenstein, a Holocaust survivor who died in July after eating tainted liverwurst.
Morgenstein died from sepsis and listeria meningitis after a 10-day hospital stay, according to the lawsuit.
The lawsuit alleges that the death of an 88-year-old Virginia man was a direct result of eating the tainted deli meat.
Each lawsuit seeks damages ranging from $25,000 to more than $5 million.
