LIV Golf Has Apparently Delayed New Orleans Tournament After CEO Said Season Would Keep Going Strong

LIV Golf’s New Orleans Tournament Postponed

LIV Golf’s tournament set for late June in New Orleans has been postponed, according to reports from ESPN. This decision appears to stem from LIV’s ongoing search for financial backing after the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund (PIF) supposedly withdrew its support for the league.

The event was initially slated for June 25 to June 28 at Bayou Oaks in City Park, Louisiana. A statement from LIV is anticipated to be released on Tuesday.

Louisiana Economic Development Secretary Susan Bourgeois has been urging LIV officials for two weeks to reach a decision about the event.

ESPN noted that LIV Golf is working with Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry’s office and the Louisiana Economic Development Authority to discuss potential rescheduling for the fall.

Furthermore, ESPN reports that LIV Golf is contemplating moving the tournament to avoid the summer’s intense heat, aiming to ensure the courses are in prime condition while also considering the World Cup’s impact on television viewership and audience attendance.

However, the future of LIV Golf is looking uncertain, as PIF is expected to halt funding after the 2026 season. LIV Golf CEO Scott O’Neill reassured staff in an email dated April 15 that operations would continue as planned without any interruptions.

The next LIV tournament is set to occur from May 7 to May 10 at Trump National Golf Club in Sterling, Virginia.

Since its inception in 2022, PIF has invested over $5 billion in LIV Golf, reportedly providing $100 million each month for the last three years. A significant portion of this funding has gone into golfer contracts and tournament prize money, which is slated to increase from $25 million to $30 million for the 2026 season. The extra $5 million is intended to support team finances.

The Daily Caller has sought comment from LIV Golf regarding the postponement.
