LIV Golf: Phil Mickelson “being truthful,” drops stunning retirement bomb

Phil Mickelson joins Bloomberg exclusively during the relatively successful LIV Golf Adelaide week in Australia. During his interview, Mickelson shockingly hinted at his retirement.

“I’m 53 years old now, and to be honest, my career is coming to an end,” Mickelson said.

A lot of golfers, especially great golfers, generally don’t get into it until they’re well beyond their 50s. Granted, LIV Golf doesn’t have a senior tour like PGA Tour Champions.

He did not specifically mention when he would retire. However, Mickelson explained what he wants to do next in the golf industry.

“I want others to feel the same sense of fun and fulfillment that the game of golf has given me,” he elaborated. “There are moments when you’re alone on the golf course and you feel very alone and at peace. There are so many great things about this game of golf that I want others to experience as well.”

During his time on the PGA Tour, Mickelson won six major championships and 45 overall tournaments. He became the oldest major winner at the 2021 PGA Championship at 50 years and 11 months.

Mickelson’s reputation was tarnished by gambling allegations, he left for the Saudi-backed circuit, and countless negative comments were hurled at the PGA Tour. Either way, Lefty is without a doubt one of the greatest players of all time and remains at the forefront of one half of professional golf.
