Live updates: Trump, world leaders attend Pope Francis funeral in Rome


Pope Francis’ Funeral – the world’s first Argentine Pope – is held in Rome to gather and pay respects Catholics from all over the world.

Francis died of a stroke Monday at the age of 88. This is a complication of chronic lung disease that has plagued the Pope for several months. His death is now triggering a tradition that will find new Vatican leaders through the tradition known as the Conclave.

Many world leaders will also be attending Francis’ funeral on Saturday at St. Peters Square, including President Trump and former President Biden, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and France’s Emmanuel Macron.

The Pope spent his last day celebrating Holy Week, seven days leading up to Easter Sunday. Vice President Vance, who is not expected to attend the additional service ceremony, met with the Pope at the Vatican hours before his death.

Cardinal Giovanni Batista will preside over the service It is expected to provide eulogy.

The queue is scheduled to begin at about 10am local time or at 4am EDT.
