Live updates: Van Hollen details his meeting with Abrego Garcia in El Salvador

The fight over Kilmer Abrego Garcia’s deportation consumed Washington and sparked debates over immigration policies and legitimate procedures.

In March, Abrego Garcia, who lived with his wife in Maryland, was sent to the infamous Centre for Terrorist Confinement (CECOT) in El Salvador. On Thursday, Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) visited Abrego Garcia at CECOT Prison in El Salvador.

Van Hollen will be providing updates on his condition on several Sunday shows this week. The Democrats are scheduled to appear in five major cable networks to discuss his trip to the Central American country.

Other administrative staff sitting at this weekend’s talk show include Environmental Protection Agency administrator Lee Zeldin and Interior Secretary Doug Burgham. He is likely to promote the administration’s efforts to reduce the size and scope of the federal government by cutting several regulations and reducing spending.

Democrats pushed back many of these actions and denounced the Trump administration to cancel research grants related to the effects of climate change and environmental pollution.

Several Democrats, including House minority leaders Hakeem Jeffries (NY) and Sen. Amy Klobuchar (Minnesota), are expected to repeat these criticisms on Sunday.

Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healy (D) is also part of CBS’s “Face the Nation,” which could put emphasis on the fight against the Trump administration over Harvard’s federal funds.
