Former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) reportedly communicated with a witness being questioned during a special committee meeting on Jan. 6, even though her attorney was not present.
A press release from House Administration Committee Chairman Brian Still (R-Wis.) stated: revealed Cheney began contacting Cassidy Hutchinson, a former aide to former chief of staff Mark Meadows, through Alyssa Farrar Griffin, the former White House director of strategic communications and former chief of staff to Donald Trump. That's what it means.
Cheney contacted Hutchinson through Griffin without Hutchinson's attorney's knowledge.
Hutchinson reportedly contacted Griffin in April 2022 after her “second transcribed interview,” and the two reportedly met at Griffin's townhome in Georgetown. . During the meeting, Hutchinson told Griffin that he had “further information to provide to the task force,” according to the press release.
When Mr. Hutchinson contacted Farrah Griffin, she invited Mr. Hutchinson to her Georgetown townhome to speak on April 26, 2022. That night, Mr. Hutchinson told Farrah Griffin that he had further information that he could provide to the task force, according to a statement from Mr. Hutchinson and both men. During the conversation, Farrah Griffin agreed that:[contact] About Liz Cheney [Hutchinson’s] Schedule another interview on your behalf. Hutchinson's new testimony will include a never-before-heard account of her alleging that Trump agreed to allow rioters to chant “Hang Mike Pence.”
Despite Mr. Griffin telling Mr. Hutchinson in a message on the encrypted messaging app Signal that Mr. Cheney's “one concern was as long as Mr. Hutchinson's lawyer was available,” Mr. He could not speak to her “really ethically” without Stephen Passantino being present.
Griffin reportedly continued to act “as an intermediary for Cheney,” during which she “helped arrange Hutchinson's third transcribed interview” based on the attorney's knowledge.
Hutchinson and Griffin also asked Hutchinson's attorney to explain why Hutchinson “needed to be interviewed a third time” before the special committee on Jan. 6 “to create a false story.” It is also reported that he conspired with the
Hutchinson transcribed a May 17, 2021 interview that conveniently fits into the task force's narrative that President Trump is dangerous and solely responsible for the events of January 6. He testified to a series of unsubstantiated and unverified stories. Despite testifying twice before the special committee, Hutchinson had never previously mentioned this “new information.”
After Hutchinson's third transcribed interview, which Cheney “led,” Hutchinson “reached out directly to Cheney.” Shortly after they began communicating, Hutchinson “fired Passantino” and Cheney “provided Hutchinson with new counsel,” according to the press release.
Hutchinson was also represented by Passantino when she emailed Cheney. [sic] Cheney knew. Cheney and Hutchinson communicated directly for days without Passantino's knowledge. Cheney then provided Hutchinson with new lawyers from Alston and Byrd free of charge.
Days after Cheney began communicating directly with Hutchinson, Hutchinson fired Passantino and hired attorneys recommended by Cheney, who agreed to represent Hutchinson pro bono. Within weeks, Cheney secretly brought Hutchinson in for a fourth transcribed interview. In addition to Mr. Hutchinson's new attorney, only Mr. Cheney and one other committee attorney were present during this fourth transcribed interview. In this fourth transcribed interview, Hutchinson testified to some of her most outlandish new claims.
After changing lawyers, the special committee on January 6 created a story that “scapegoated Passantino'' to “ensure Hutchinson's credibility as a witness.''
“They fabricated a story that Passantino gave Hutchinson false advice, including directing Hutchinson to withhold information and misrepresenting her testimony, and even that Passantino gave Hutchinson false advice in exchange for favorable testimony. The press release continued.
Cheney previously falsely claimed that Breitbart News senior legal analyst Ken Kurkowski was sent to the Justice Department “by John Eastman” to work for Jeff Clark. Ta.
Federalist Margot Cleveland reported In June 2022, Kurkowski issued a statement debunking Cheney's “false portrayal that she was sent by John Eastman to work for Clark,” stating that “Mr. Kurkowski is a member of the Department of Justice. “I have provided the committee with documents substantiating my transfer to the Civil Affairs Bureau,” it added. Jeff Clark has been working on it since July 2020, long before he became acting head of the department. ”
