Liz Wheeler reveals insights on Pope Leo’s advice to ‘be less fearful’ of Islam

Pope Urges Christians to Embrace Dialogue with Muslims

In December 2025, during a press conference on his flight back from Turkey and Lebanon, the pope emphasized that Lebanon serves as a valuable example of coexistence between Islam and Christianity. He stated, “I think one of the great lessons Lebanon can teach the world is that it is a country where both Islam and Christianity exist and are respected, and that they can live together and be friends.”

He further noted, “I think these lessons are crucial for Europe and North America as well. Perhaps we should explore ways to be less fearful and work towards real dialogue and respect.”

However, Liz Wheeler, host of ‘The Liz Wheeler Show’ on Blaze TV, expressed her disappointment, feeling that the pope’s remarks reflect left-leaning political views more than spiritual guidance. “As a successor of St. Peter, it’s disheartening to hear such sentiments,” she remarked.

Wheeler shared concerning statistics, mentioning, “Of the 4,849 Christians killed for their faith last year, 93% were victims of Muslims or Islamists, mainly in sub-Saharan Africa.”

While the pope is visiting Africa, Wheeler questioned whether he had acknowledged the mass graves of Catholics murdered there. She played a clip of a Nigerian priest, emphasizing the urgency of Western intervention as he stood by the body of a woman killed by Islamic extremists.

“Just yesterday, in Algeria, wreaths were laid at the graves of Muslims who perished in the war of independence,” she continued. “What wasn’t addressed was that many of those Algerians were killed while fighting against Catholics.” She expressed concern over the pope’s call to ease fears about Islam, questioning if it implies a kind of guilt regarding past and present conflicts.

Wheeler stressed, “It’s not merely historical—it’s ongoing. The genocide of Christians is actively occurring in Africa, perpetrated by Islamists who invoke their faith to justify violence.”
