Liz Wheeler shares 'the strongest Catholic reply' to Trump's contentious Jesus post

On April 12, coinciding with Orthodox Easter Sunday, former President Trump shared an AI-generated image on Truth Social which portrayed him in a white tunic and red robe healing the sick, drawing some comparisons to a Christ-like figure. This post followed a lengthy critique of Pope Leo on the same platform.

The image triggered significant backlash, with many evangelicals and conservative Christians accusing Trump of blasphemy. Subsequently, he removed the image the following day, stating that his intent was to indicate he was a doctor, not Jesus.

Liz Wheeler, host of “The Liz Wheeler Show,” provided what she considered the “best Catholic response” to the post. Describing herself as a “Catholic Trump supporter,” she expressed that she found the post neither spiritually nor politically wise.

“It’s not spiritually wise for him, and I genuinely care about his eternal soul. As a Christian, I think it’s also evident from this backlash that it isn’t a winning political move,” she noted.

Despite her criticism, Liz dismissed the notion that Trump sees himself as an evil figure trying to present himself as powerful as Jesus. “Do I believe he’s some kind of antichrist thinking he’s a savior, as many online claim? Not really,” she remarked.

She continued, asking rhetorically, “Should our God be mocked? Absolutely not. Nor should I pose as a child of God when I genuinely am not.” Liz speculated that the post likely originated as a misguided joke from someone on Trump’s team.

“I suspect it was suggested by a Gen Z male staff member, perhaps someone who’s been too immersed in offensive meme groups and has become desensitized,” she commented.

Liz further posited that perhaps Trump was attempting to show he is fighting evil at an institutional level through this meme.

While acknowledging Trump’s imperfections, she defended his actions against various issues like transgender ideology and globalism as honorable. “He’s battling against these issues to secure our borders and protect our nation, a Christian nation,” she stated.

She concluded that the meme should never have been posted in the first place, especially if it was meant to liken Trump to Jesus, and thus he rightly deleted it. “It’s really that straightforward,” she said.
