What a mess!

A man who left his job to tackle needle, human waste, and other debris in Los Angeles claims he has picked up nearly 100,000 pounds of trash, yet he accuses the city of neglecting to remove it swiftly enough.

“Why should I go after it when it’s already in my bag?” Juan Naura expressed to the Post, clearly frustrated.

Naura, 47, has been cleaning the streets for just over ten months. She recounts difficulties getting the city to pick up the trash, often taking weeks after reporting it through 311.

“There was a time it took three weeks, and it was really frustrating because homeless people were inside the bags,” Naura noted.

“What were they thinking? No one should have to live like this. Just do your job,” she added, highlighting her disappointment.

The trash can also include hazardous items like needles, knives, and human feces, which pose a risk to the public if not addressed promptly.

Naura moved from Virginia to Los Angeles in hopes of funding a tech startup, but after witnessing the condition of MacArthur Park, she decided to shift her focus to cleaning the area.

“I want to see beautiful parks and a beautiful city,” she stated.

A representative for Mayor Karen Bass mentioned that the city will look into 311 requests to ensure proper services are delivered. They expressed appreciation for Naura’s initiative, stating, “Residents like Juan represent the best of Los Angeles.” The Mayor’s Office intends to connect with her.

Nowa has drawn public attention through social media, amassing 60,000 followers on Instagram. She claims to have secured hundreds of volunteers to assist in her efforts.

Looking ahead, she’s setting her sights on a new goal.

“Next year, I’m aiming for a Guinness record: 300 bags in one month.”
