Logan Sargent's time in Formula 1 appears to be over.
Williams announced earlier this season that Carlos Sainz Jr. would take the seat for the 2025 season, but the team went a step further on Tuesday, announcing that Franco Colapinto would take Sargent's seat ahead of the Italian Grand Prix.
Sargent's stay with the team in 2025 had been in doubt since the start of the 2024 season, but his struggles this year, including a heavy crash in FP3 before last weekend's Dutch Grand Prix, appear to have tipped the scales against him in the mind of Williams team principal James Bowles.
The statement said: Driver's official appSargent thanked the fans and Williams for giving him the “opportunity” to enter F1.
“Following today's news, I would like to say I'm very grateful to Williams Racing for giving me my first opportunity in Formula 1,” the statement began. “I am so grateful for the support I've received from everyone in the team from the moment I first joined. [Williams] The Academy will return in 2021.”
Sargent then reflected on two of his F1 highlights: his first foray into F1 and scoring points at last season's United States Grand Prix.
“Driving an F1 car for the first time in Abu Dhabi was a once-in-a-lifetime experience and becoming the first American to score points in 30 years in Austin last season was a truly special moment.”
As for what's next, Sargent said the company will “take its time” to evaluate its options before making any announcements.
“I am honored to have represented such a historic team the past two seasons,” Sargent continued. “I will now take some time to evaluate my options and make an announcement regarding my future at a later date.”
As for what options there are, a move to IndyCar is likely, with Prema Racing joining the series in 2025. Prior to his Williams drive, Sargent drove for Prema Racing during his time in F3.
